Our Story
EquaLanguage was born from a deeply personal place. Founder Tomer Polat grew up with a father who is hard of hearing — watching firsthand how communication barriers create invisible walls in everyday life. That experience shaped a conviction: technology can and must bridge the gap between deaf and hearing people.
In 2021, Tomer pitched EquaLanguage on Shark Tank Israel (Season 4). The concept was clear — real-time, bidirectional sign language translation using AI. After years of research and development in AI and full-stack engineering, EquaLanguage relaunched in 2026 as the world's first platform to support Israeli Sign Language (ISL) recognition in the browser, with American Sign Language (ASL) on the way.
Community-First Philosophy
We believe that technology should empower, not extract. That's why EquaLanguage is built with the deaf community, not just for them.
Our core commitment is simple: our platform will always be free for deaf and hard of hearing users. We monetize through businesses and institutions that need to provide accessible services, ensuring that the cost of accessibility is borne by those who have a responsibility to provide it.
"Nothing about us without us."
— The guiding principle of our development
